Oxford Street, London: Christmas Lights switch on.

For 13 years Clear Island worked with the West End Company to stage the Oxford Streets Christmas lights switch-on.  Clear Island was charged with providing the staging and running of this major live event, working with all the key stakeholders TFL, Metropolitan Police, The Westend Company, Capital radio Heart FM, ITV, and many of the various sponsors such as Walt Disney, House of Fraser and John Lewis.

This annual event drew crowds of 20,000 plus to see artists including Spandau Ballet, West Life, Peter Andrey, Little Boots, Steps, Blue, X-Factor and the Saturday’s.

For the Clear Island team the event meant the pressure was on to build a stage and sound-set as quickly as possible with minimum impact on this key shopping street. Over the years stages where built on retailers roofs, canopies and even in the middle of Oxford Street.

In 2009 Clear Island where challenged by Disney Films to produce the ultimate switch on to tie in with the premiere of “A Christmas Carol”.  To achieve this Clear Island simultaneously produced three switch-on at Oxford Circus, Regent street and St Paul’s Cathedral.  The event culminated in each event switch on being filmed and beamed to both Leicester Square and Hollywood, Los Angeles .

The switch-on’s were hosted by Jim Carey, Bob Hoskins and Colin Firth.
